“My photography has a strong connection with my primal view of life”.
Steve started photography about 40 years ago. He studied at Southend School of Art and Design originally to share his outer world experiences. In the early days he used his art to try and help shape society’s attitudes and to assist with his involvement in the political struggle of the 1970’s, where he helped with the creation and development of the Gay Youth Movement. Since then, his photography has been influenced by his sexuality, the people he has met on his journey in life, those around him and the artists he admires.
“I now concentrate on my ‘inner world’ ” he says, “which finds expression through my art and photography. Over the last two decades I wanted to portray life and people in a primal way, an exploration of the deeper levels of experience with my own take on the world.”
